In this lesson we will use Photoshop’s TEXT and EDITING tools to create an ‘expressive’ design.
You will choose a word (an adjective, a verb) and use the font tools, effects and images to illustrate & visually describe the meaning of the word.

Instructions:

Open Photoshop

Create a new document > Web > Web minimum

  1. Use the text tool to write a word. Use an ADJECTIVE or a VERB or any word that you can have fun expressing visually.
  2. Find the correct FONT. Think carefully about what FONT represents your word’s meaning.
  3. Adjust the size, the width, the height, the tracking of the word to make it fit.
  4. Convert the font to a shape to make it unique/match the meaning.
  5. Add an IMAGE texture above the word. Use LAYER>CLIPPING MASK to make the image stick to the word.
  6. Play with the EFFECTS/LAYER STYLES – add drop shadows, glows, etc.
  7. Add a Background Image, use the ADJUSTMENT LAYERS to fix the image’s color and look.

7. Save as PSD for your records. SAVE AS PNG and turn it in
